Surface Laptop for Consumer

Windows 10 S is the familiar, productive Windows our customers have always counted on – in an experience that is streamlined for security and superior performance. It exclusively uses apps from the Windows Store, which are Microsoft-verified for security and ensures that users browse safely with Microsoft Edge. Windows 10 S keeps users running fast and secure day in and day out.

At this time, Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S is optimised
to be a great laptop for individual consumers. For Commercial customers, depending on your customer’s scenario, Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S could be a fit if:

• The customer has gone all-in on a cloud-based infrastructure and is using Azure AD, Mobile Device Management, and the Windows Store for Business. Domain join is not supported.
• The customer has access to all the apps they require through the Windows Store. Traditional desktop applications (Win32) are not supported to preserve performance and security.
• The customer uses the Office Online experience available through a web browser or the Office Mobile modern apps available through the Windows Store. Office Pro Plus, the version of Office aimed at businesses which features desktop applications like Skype for Business, is not currently available through the Windows Store.
• The customer uses modern peripherals which have drivers available through Windows Update. Custom drivers such as legacy printer drivers cannot be installed to preserve performance and security.

For the best possible experience, we recommend that customers only purchase Surface Laptop if the value proposition of Windows 10 S aligns to their needs. If customers are looking for a premium device to run Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise we recommend devices from our Surface portfolio that ship with Windows 10 Pro - the Surface Pro and Surface Book.

Surface Laptop for Commerical

We understand that some customers may love the Surface Laptop hardware but will want to switch from Windows 10 S to the licensed Windows Operating System (OS) of their choice. We have options available to enable this which differ between Commercial customers and Education customers.

• Any customer can switch from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro at any time by going to the Microsoft Store and manually applying the switch. Please note that this method requires a Microsoft Account to be configured on the device.
• For Commercial customers, Windows 10 S is not a qualifying OS, which means they must take additional steps to re-image to the licensed Windows OS of their choice. For complete information, download the Switch Guide, which you are welcome to share with customers who require this information. Please note that the switch products detailed in the Surface Laptop Commercial Fact Sheet will be available starting July 1st 2017.
• For Education customers, Windows 10 S is a qualifying OS. For complete information about the options available to Education customers we will have details available through a TechNet article soon. We will provide the link on drumbeat.surface.com as soon as it becomes available.
